Our Story

How it all started...

Mercy Church was founded in 1910 as a group of members came together meeting in homes. The group raised funds and built the first building on the corner of 5th and Broad. It was named Fifth and Broad Assembly of God. In 1928 brought the merger of Fifth and Broad and Northside Assemblies together. In 1949 a new building was constructed at the corner of Seventh and Bluff (the current Municipal Court Building). The name was changed to First Assembly of God. In 1977 a new building was built and the church moved to our current location of 3101 McNiel. During the following decades the church experienced growth and additional changes. But a general pattern of mercy appeared. In 2020, after much prayer and  with an overwhelming majority of the church in agreement the name was changed to Mercy Church.

                                                                                            Be The One...

Every day our friends and neighbors feel like life is against them, and in some cases, that God is against them. Some even think the church is against them. Imagine if people in our city knew that Mercy was a community of people who was FOR the city? Even more importantly, what if our church and our lives became a megaphone to let the people around us know that Jesus is FOR them?
Here’s what we believe:
People won’t know Jesus is FOR them if they don’t know that we are FOR them.
At Mercy, we exist to fulfill the scripture in Luke 19:10 [TPT] "...[Jesus] has come to seek out and to give life to those who are lost [the Sought].” With Jesus as our example, we will Be The One to seek forgotten people in forgotten places, Be The One to invite the uninvited, and Be The One to show  mercy to the Sought.

Be The One for the City...

Mercy isn’t just a place where we gather for church services, it’s who we are as a community as we gather and as we go. We are committed to creating environments on Sundays in our services, and all week long at our kitchen tables, in our backyards, or our desks at work etc. where we can be in people’s corners because we want them to know that Jesus is in their corner.
We believe that the vision that God has for our church and lives will be determined by the size of our hearts for people.
At Mercy, we are committed to being the ONE to  love our neighbors well and being FOR our local community partners the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, Hero House/The ARC, and Chi Alpha.
